We are building our Geospatial Solutions and Visualization service area and have an immediate vacancy for a Junior/Intermediate GIS Analyst with a passion for GIS and an interest in supporting sustainability, planning, environmental assessment and design. We strive to provide elegant solutions for a diverse array of topic areas such as climate and energy strategies, official community plans, and environmental impact assessments. As a GIS analyst, you would be working with other GIS team members to create a wide array of mapping and analysis products ranging from environmental network analysis to land use plans and 3D visualization in support of both our planning and design teams as well as for other Golder offices, which are located throughout the world. Job Qualifications
?Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate must have at least 3 years’ experience working with Geographic Information Systems, be highly creative and numerically literate, have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, be focused on providing high quality service and products, and have a track record of completing projects and tasks on time and with professionalism. An education or experience in urban planning and design, environmental or transportation planning or related disciplines is preferred. As you will be consistently working with clients and staff at various levels within our company, strong interpersonal skills are highly valued. Responsibilities include the following:
- Diploma and/or Undergraduate degree in related discipline, or comparable experience;
- 3 to 5 years of experience with geospatial technology is required;
- Experience using ESRI products and data formats, in particular ArcGIS version 10 and its associated extensions particularly spatial analyst, network analyst and 3D Analyst;
- Working knowledge of Python, and any other scripting languages used in GIS;
- Experience using ESRI ModelBuilder is required;
- Experience with problem-solving, statistics, and raster processing;
- Familiarity with a variety of spatial data types, formats, projections and datums;
- Understanding of quality control measures appropriate for information management and cartography;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Project and client focused with regard to timelines, team engagement, communication, and schedules; and
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Senior GIS Specialist Project Summary Provide technical support and assistance on use of GIS applications for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), establishing GIS lab and implementation of pilot project Job Responsibilities

Provide technical support and assistance on use of GIS applications for the ECP;

Assist in establishing and configuring GIS lab with newly acquired hardware and software;

Provide technical assistance in implementation of GIS pilot project;

Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including census, field operation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs and existing maps/datasets;

Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer and Spatial Sciences with specialization in GIS technologies from a reputed university, or equivalent practical experience;

Minimum ten (10) years of relevant thematic and programmatic experience;

Expertise in GIS development using ESRI ArcGIS suite;

Experience in constituency delimitation using GIS highly advantageous;

Excellent interpersonal/representational skills;

Ability to produce high quality output under work pressure and within time constraints;

Experience of working with international NGOs or similar organizations ; and

Fluency in written and spoken English.

Supervision received: The Consultant for the Food Security Analysis unit reports to the Regional Food Security adviser

Accountabilities: Within delegated authority, the Consultant for the Food Security Analysis Unit will be responsible for the following duties:

General

• strengthen WFP knowledge base and understanding of food security and vulnerability issues in the West Africa region contributing to a better preparedness and response capacity to protect the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities
• ensure the use of such knowledge to inform WFP decision making and contribute to country level work of WFP, government counterparts, civil society organizations, bilateral donors and UN agencies
• contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a food security and vulnerability monitoring system to detect changes in the food security and vulnerability situation of populations at risk
• lead and/or participate in food security and vulnerability assessments and monitoring as well as other joint assessments
• participate in the design and implementation of WFP programmes with particular emphasis on situation and response analysis, defining the role of food assistance and providing recommendations on targeting of such assistance along geographic, sectoral or socioeconomic lines;

Specific

• participate and support the broader regional level discussions and methodology/strategy development for food security analysis such as the Cadre Harmonisé or the Integrated Phase Classification
• contribute in the development of collaboration with the Centre Inter-Etats de Lutte contre la Secheresse au Sahel, FEWS NET, FAO, Save the Children, Oxfam, UNICEF and other main food security and nutrition analysis actors
• contribute to the elaboration of the monthly joint FAO-WFP food security bulletin
• support the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of ongoing and planned food security surveys in the region as needed
• provide inputs to the Food Security long term strategy for the region, including fundraising and communication for food security analysis
• perform other tasks as requested

Minimum qualifications:
Education:
Advanced university degree in sociology, economics, agriculture, geography, nutrition, rural development and or similar relevant discipline

Experience:
At least five years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in foo in food security, vulnerability analysis or a closely related area, such as food security or early warning

Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of food security analysis and the data collection, treatment, and manipulation techniques typically associated with it
Advanced computer skills, including at least intermediate skills in windows based word processing, spreadsheet, database and GIS applications

Language:
International Professional: Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English and French essential. Limited knowledge (intermediate/level B) of Portuguese would be an asset.

Desirable skills:
Advanced knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and statistical analysis software such as SPSS
Experience in early warning and remote sensing and familiarity with the specialty software applications associated with them
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative survey techniques
Experience in the design and implementation of food assistance programmes
Some experience in remote sensing interpretation and analysis, NDVI, CCD

Supporting the new state of South Sudan through basic agricultural, water and sanitation services - ACTED is committed to meeting the emerging needs and challenges of the new state of South Sudan through the provision of basic services. ACTED South Sudan focuses on agricultural support, provision of water and sanitation services and support for basic infrastructure to communities in transition, particularly those who have returned from Sudan. Community-based approaches, including Community-Led Total Sanitation and Cash for Work, are emphasized in order to support the most vulnerable households and promote local sustainability. ACTED is also working is working to react to new areas of need such as the refugee crisis's in Upper Nile and Unity States, and the inter-tribal conflicts in Jonglei. ACTED is currently supporting refugee populations in Jamam camp as well as host populations, following massive displacement of populations from Sudan: camp coordination, delivery of basic goods and services, access to potable water, etc.

III. Position Profile

ACTED is aiming at strengthening information management in South Sudan's Upper Nile and Unity State refugee camps. Through this effort, ACTED, through its REACH initiative, will conduct assessments and create databases, maps and systems of information dissemination to relevant aid actors. The goal of the effort is to build a dynamic information management and sharing infrastructure that improves the planning, coordination and traceability of aid provision and services in each camp. This will in turn significantly improve the effectiveness of aid provided to refugees.

The Database and GIS Intern will contribute to the design and regular use of GIS and database materials used for the evaluation. The position will be based in Maban, South Sudan with frequent travel to field locations in which the evaluation is taking place.
